Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)

In 2000, GRI co-founders Bob Massie and Allen White asked Paul to help develop governmental and NGO support for the fledgling sustainability reporting initiative. This began with a presentation to the Washington D.C. GRI Conference in 2000 of a personal perspective of what sustainability reporting might look like in 2010.

From 2001 to 2002, Paul represented GRI at the intergovernmental negotiations leading up to the 2002 UN World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), whose final Plan of Implementation made specific reference to GRI. With Allen White, Paul also played a role in negotiating the terms of GRI's move from Boston to Amsterdam, where it was established in 2002.

Between 2002-2004, Paul was a member of the GRI secretariat, working as Director of Strategic Development with Allen and later (from December 2002) with Chief Executive Ernst Ligteringen.
